Minecraft chat doesn't offer a lot of features for players, which leaves it open to spammers and doesn't give the user very much usability. This Minecraft mod makes it more convenient to talk to your friends, ignore the people that you don't like or don't feel like talking to, and much more.
Here are a list of the main features of the mod:
- Split chat into tabs
- Custom filters that are colored labeled and have unique “ping” sounds to notify you of a message
- Multi-line messages
- Chat log
- Spam Filter
- Customizable Chatbox
- Chat notifications
- Unicode chat
Being able to split your chat panels will help you organize who you’re talking to without having it fill up a single chat window. If you’re having multiple conversations, it can be hard to read every line of each conversation without getting confused. Think of this sort of the way that Facebook organizes chat when someone messages you, but with a tab feature instead.
Your chat will be labeled by color based off of general chat, private messages, or nearby chat. This will help you recognize what chat you should be paying attention to at just a glance. There will also be custom pings that will alert you based off the noise they make. These can be turned off for certain chat channels, such as general chat, which may just get annoying.
Minecraft currently only allows you to send one line messages that will turn into multi-line messages based of of a cut-off point. Now, you can create your own cut-off points and organize your text in separate lines. Minecraft may implement this feature later on, but for now this makes a good temporary fix to the problem.
Timestamps are a nice feature to have when you want to look when somebody sent something to you. For instance, perhaps you were away from your computer and you got back with a message from someone saying that they would be back in 45 minutes. You don’t know when they sent that message, so when should you expect them? However, now you will be able to glance at the timestamp given by the Tabbycat mod for Minecraft and figure it out.
A chat log is simply just a savable file that will let you look back at chat between you and your friends. This can be used as evidence, or to store something funny. The file is saved in a special folder created by the mod.
If you don’t want to see someone’s spam, you can make it so you don’t see their posts. This eliminates their spam and allows you to continue your Minecraft experience peacefully.
You can now change the size of your chatbox. This won’t effect the size of the chat, but it will make more text appear on each line, and will show more lines of text whenever you extend it. You can also shrink it, which will have the opposite effect, but will make the chatbox take up less room on your screen.
These are small notification icons about you receiving a new chat message. This will remind you to check each tab!
Unicode text supports characters from all languages and cultures, and so this will help you better communicate with people in other countries that don’t normally use the same characters as you. While most players won’t be effected, it will be a great feature for those it does work for.
