It seems that one of Minecraft mod creators’ favorite hobbies is recreating other games in Minecraft – there are so many mods that just attempt to make even slivers of other games in Minecraft, but some projects like Pokemobs aim to be far more ambitious. The eventual goal of Pokemobs is to put all 150 original Pokemon into the game of Minecraft and also implement all of the game’s mechanics.
Gotta Catch Em All
As of right now, there are a handful of Pokemon that have been implemented, which is a pretty sizable number, but still nowhere near the 150 Pokemon that will eventually make up the mod. Some of the highlights are:
And the list goes on, even though there are far too many to list here. Some of these Pokemon, like Mew, show up far more rarely in the world, and are therefore harder to ever find. What exactly can you do with all these Pokemon once you find them, though?
Actually Catching Them
These Pokemon wander around in the world at first, much like Pokemon in the official games do, and just like in the official games, you can use a pokeball to catch them. Of course, in Minecraft, you have to craft that pokeball, which you can craft by using Wool, redstone, and coal. After the pokeball is thrown at the Pokemon, it is caught, and the game more or less proceeds from there as you would expect.
Making Them the Very Best
After taming a Pokemon, you can of course name it whatever you want, and keep them in your inventory. Instead of fighting other Pokemon though, these Pokemon level up by attacking mobs in the world like creepers, skeletons, and the like. As time goes on, your Pokemon levels up and becomes better at fighting mobs, and you get to choose which stats change as they level up, allowing you to create completely unique Pokemon, something the official games have never allowed you to do.
This Mod Will Level Up
Of course, eventually the pokemobs mod for minecraft will be so much more, like so many Minecraft mods, but this mod is already doing something that so many mods fail to do – it has showed progress over time. Not all that long ago, there were only 15 Pokemon making up the entirety of the mod, and there were endless amounts of bugs. The bugs have been fixed, more Pokemon have been added, and the mod continues to be worked on, which is very exciting.
