Running and sneaking in Minecraft has never been easier thanks to the Better Sprinting mod created by Chylex. Instead of the dreaded W double-tap, the player can now bind sprint and sneak to other keys for easily toggling. It's so simple, yet the improvement on gameplay makes this mod essential for a more fluid experience.
The actual changes made by the mod can be access at the bottom of the controls menu. The three additional options are:
- Sneak (toggle)
- Sprint (hold)
- Sprint (toggle)
Sneak (toggle) allows you to push a key once to enter crouch mode without having to hold it. The same goes for Sprint (toggle), which is incredibly useful when trying to navigate areas with not a lot of room for error, usually in cases of death by lava. Any key bound to Sprint (hold) will make the character sprint as long as it is pressed, giving more precise control of sprint without the jerky animation achieved by double-tapping W.
In addition to the improvements granted in survival mode, there is a boost to flying/spectating speed in creative mode as long as sprint is enabled. The speed boost is up to five times faster than the vanilla game. Better Sprinting can also be used on multiplayer servers and is fully compatible with other mods.
The only possible issue with Better Sprinting is an increased use of the hunger stat. If sprint is left on, the food bar will deplete markedly faster that when the character walks. If you intend to leave sprint toggled on, your character will need to eat more frequently to avoid dying of hunger.
Essentially, this mod adds a few simple features that should have been default control options from the start. Better Sprinting is a basic mod that will only be a positive addition to your Minecraft experience.
