Inspired by Terraria and other side-scrolling games, The 2D Craft mod for Minecraft dramatically changes the style of play from an open 3D world to a flat 2D expanse, allowing the player to rediscover their favorite game from a new point of view. A New (Old) Way to Play This mod presents Minecraft from a flat perspective rather than from the POV of their avatar, giving players the chance to watch themselves travel through the world of Minecraft from the outside.
Players are given a platform three blocks wide that endlessly extends in either direction, allowing them to walk around obstacles while still creating the complex structures which Minecraft is known for. THis new and simple view is both a nostalgic take on the gaming sensation, as well as an entirely new way to experience a game everyone has grown to love.
Same Minecraft, Different World
Though the viewpoint of the world is changed dramatically, most of the features of the original layout remain. There are still biomes, cavernous mines, monsters and animals, crafting, and the three modes of play (Adventure, Creative and Hardcore) are still available to the player. Players may also set their usual worlds to the new 2D setting, though your mileage may very as to how well this will work for you. Generally speaking, it’s more fun to simply create new world to enjoy the experience. Traveling through the world requires a fair bit of mining, as there are many obstacles that can obstruct the player in this more limited environment. As the cursor is normally within the players view, and the camera now views the player from the side, players must also get used to a new method of pointing and clicking which is somewhat less precise than normal.
Enhance Your 2D Experience!
The mod is often paired with texture packs in order to further the immersion into the new style of play. Many players prefer to add either the terraria texture pack, or the super Mario world pack to give them the sense of bringing Minecraft into other gaming worlds.
